This week PodBooth worked with a group of young adult learners from Youth inc., an alternative school in the Adelaide CBD. Students were set the task of recording a podcast episode in which they reflected on their first term studying within the innovative learning environment offered at Youth inc.

The group of young adults arrived at PodBooth studio abuzz with nervous energy. It would be their first time podcasting; their first time sitting at a microphone, with headphones on. Given the newness of the experience their trepidation was understandable.  There was a tense silence when Rory, PodBooth’s podcast producer asked, “Ok – are we ready to record?”

As client care manager, I sit at a desk outside of the studio (which has been carefully sound proofed, although some vocal noise escapes). I could hear the muffled gist of very confident and enthusiastic podcasting. The conversation didn’t sound stilted or nervous, but, rather, like young professionals honing their communication skills, with mindfulness and purpose.

When the students exited the studio, everyone was exuberant and enthusiastic to try it again. Their teacher said, “It’s so wonderful to see them sparkle.”

That evening I had the opportunity to listen to the polished full recording and watch the video version. The podcast was funny, honest and relatable. In fact, it would be right at home in Apple’s New and Noteworthy list. PodBooth are proud to have been part of this positive learning experience; It highlighted to us that our studio is a fantastic educational resource. We love the idea of empowering young people with expert communication skills, that can be learned through podcasting.
